Health and Safety Protocols

Recent updates to the COVID-19 guidelines for schools from the CDC, combined with state and local experts, have helped City Schools refine our health and safety protocols. Guidance may change as the year progresses! Key protocols to help keep Hampden EMS a safe place to work and learn this year include:

  • Face coverings: As of March 14, face coverings will be recommended, but not required, while indoors.

  • Physical distancing: Distance will be maximized to the extent possible while allowing all students to return for in-person learning.

  • Handwashing and respiratory etiquette: Routines and education to support handwashing and respiratory etiquette will continue to be implemented.

  • Symptom monitoring: Everyone entering a City Schools building will be reminded to monitor their symptoms and not enter if they are experiencing symptoms.

  • Quarantining and isolation: individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 will continue to be isolated, and their non-vaccinated close contacts will continue to be quarantined.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting: cleaning and disinfecting procedures using products designed to combat COVID-19 will continue to be used daily. Cleaning and disinfecting will be done by each building’s team instead of a centrally deployed team.

Class Dojo

Our classroom teachers use Class Dojo as the primary method of communicating with families. You will find homework assignments, attendance records, notes from the teachers and the electronic grade book for your student. Please contact your child’s teacher for access to the Class Dojo page.

After Care Resources

Several community organizations provide before- and after-school care for our Mustangs. Learn about their programs here:

Family Organizations

PTO: Our mission as a Family Teacher Organization (PTO) at Hampden Elementary and Middle School is to promote and encourage communication between parents, teachers, administration and the community. The PTO also sponsors and organizes fundraising and school events, which deepen our community spirit and enrich our childrens’ educational, social, and developmental experiences at Hampden Elementary and Middle School. The membership form can be found here.

Friends of Hampden: Friends of Hampden School #55 is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting Hampden Elementary/Middle School #55, our neighborhood school. We are looking for community members and families who are willing to volunteer any amount of time to help keep us running! Contact us to learn more about how you can help, or to suggest an idea. We always welcome new suggestions for how best to support our school. Right now, we are looking for help in these specific areas: accounting, event planning, fundraising, grant research and writing, project management, and plantings and gardening.
